Come to the UCI Mountain bike and Trials World Championships of Saalfelden Leogang with EventGo!
This event, held in the region of Saalfelden Leogang (in the state of Salzburg, in the Austrian Alps) will confront the best riders in the world. Excitement is guaranteed as the stars of the world cup circus, the mountain bike rider’s elite, present their show in Leogang!
The World Championships of Saalfelden Leogang will include races of different mountain bike disciplines: four cross, downhill, cross country (Olympic and Eliminatory modalities) and trials.
Four cross (abbreviated to “4-cross” or “4X”) consists in races of four participants who compete together down a track that alternates banked corners jumps and obstacles. This modality requires a combination of technical skills, physical strength and racing line.
Four cross circuit details
- Course length: 450 m
- Height drop: 58 m
Downhill (abbreviated to “DH” or “DHI”). In this modality, riders ride downhill, negotiating a succession of fast and technical passages (with banks, bumps, jumps, tree roots…) in a race against the clock. This modality, probably the most spectacular of the mountain bike sport, requires high technical and piloting skills as well as a good amount of courage, since speeds of around 70 to 80 km/h can be reached.
Downhill circuit details
- Course length: 2600 m
- Height drop: 524 m
Cross country (abbreviated to “XC”). These races are held over undulating circuits set up in a mix of rough paths and tracks (with technical descents, forest roads, rocky paths, obstacles…). The circuits require only a moderate technical ability, since the emphasis of this modality is put in endurance rather than in technical prowess.
There will be races of two modalities of cross country at the Saalfelden Leogang World Championships: Cross country Olympic (XCO) and cross country eliminatory (XCE). The Olympic modality is a matter of physical endurance, with large numbers of riders competing together. The eliminatory modality, on the other hand, seeks a more spectacular approach, with sprint races of only four riders competing at a time.
- Course length (XCO): 4600 m
- Course length (XCE): 600 m
Trials. In trials the riders have to overcome obstacles grouped into sections without ever setting foot on the ground (or they incur penalties). The most common obstacles are rocks and shrubs, but can consist of almost anything. After negotiating a series of “sections”, the rider who has collected the fewest penalty points is declared the winner.
